YC9MDX from West Timor, Indonesia Telima Kasih Banyak!

This is newly arrived QSL card from YC9MDX, West Timor Island, Indonesia.

I had a QSO with YC9MDX station on 15m and 10m band on 25 Oct. 2009 in CQ WW DX Contest.
West Timor is not one of area in independent Timor L'este (East Timor), but an area in Indonesian colony.
When we imagine Timor is in chaos now, I understand it is very beautiful island.

Timor Island belongs to IOTA code OC-148. I think Indonesia is appropriate country for IOTA award.

PP5EG in Curitiba, Brazil, Muito Obligato!

This is a QSL card from PP5EG station in Curitiba, Brazil, which was delivered via the US QSL manager.

PY5EG station written on QSL card is a club station Araucaria DX Group in Curitiba and PP5EG station is its member. I had a QSO with PP5EG station in Kitakyushu city, Fukuoka as JO3PSJ/6 on the band of 40m on 10 Oct. 2009 before the start of domestic contest.

This station is the first Brazilian station. I broke the record of QSO distance. When I tried to call PP5EG station which sent CQ with beautiful signal like a local station, he answered me soon and I realized a QSO. I was very surprised that my voice arrived at the other side of the globe by my poor facilities of 50W output and 4.5m high dipole antenna.

When I began amateur radio, QSO with overseas station was a big dream for me. I became very happy to have a QSO with station in Hokkaido in those days. Then I couldn't expect that I realize a QSO with stations on the other side of the globe.
Now I already realized QSOs with stations in Brazil, Argentina, Chile and several European countries.

I think to be confirmed by two Brazilian stations is one of my large accomplishment. But I stil have to solve many problems to have many DX stations without difficulty.
I must make more efforts to be successful DXer!

ZX5J from Brazil, Muito Obligato!

This is a QSL card from ZX5J station in Brazil, which was delivered via the US QSL manager.

I had a QSO with ZX5J station on the band of 15m on 25 Oct. 2009 in the CQ WW DX CONTEST.

I already realized a QSO with Brazilian station on 40m band and QSO on 15m band was the first time for me. I was very surprised that my voice arrived at the other side of the globe by my poor facilities of 50W output and 4.5m high dipole antenna.

When I see a QSL card on which a map of Brazil is designed, I would like to visit it once a time. I wish I could watch the football games in the World Cup Brazil in 2014.

RA0FU in Sakhalin Island, Russia, Bolishoe Spasibo!

This is a QSL card from RA0FU station in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Sakhalin Island(AS-018) Russia.

Sakhalin Island is located in the north of our country and I had a QSO with RA0FU station on the band of 15m on 25 Oct. 2009 in the CQ WW DX CONTEST.

This station is very active in DX pedition in the islands near Sakhalin including Kurir located between Hokkaido and Kamchacka.

Another card is his second callsign RI0F. The design of QSL is a scenery of Moneron Island off shore of Sakhalin Island.
I remember that Korean Airlines 007 flying for Seoul was shot down by a missile fired by Soviet air force in 1983 over Sakhalin Island and all passengers and crews were killed. After incident, Soviet and the US forces struggled to find a black box around Moneron Island in the time of the Cold War.

When this incident happened, I was in elementary school. But I understood Soviet regime is very dangerous and frightening the world.
But When I see the scenery of this card now. I understood this tragedic island is very beautiful!
I want to build a big antenna in such beautiful site and enjoy QSO!

I had a QSO with RO9O station on the band of 40m on 5 Sep. 2009 in the ALL ASIAN CONTEST.

To tell the truth, I show you the reverse side of QSL card in this website because of special reason.
But design is very beautiful for my opinion. If you want to see the design of this card, let's QSO with this station!!

E73W from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hvala ljepa za QSL!

During my trip around Uzbekistan QSL cards from E73W, an amateur radio station in Bosnia and Herzegovina by airmail.

I had a QSO with E73W station on 25 Octber 2009 on the band of 15m by the mode of SSB in the CQ WW DX Contest. Its signal was very beautiful and Bosnian station found my siganal and realized to exchange contest number. Because this station was the first European station with which I had a QSO, I got excited. I was surprised because my facility was too poor by dipole antenna of 4.5m high and 50w output.

In addition, Bosnia and Herzegovina is special country for me. I have visited Bosnia twice--in 2002, 2004 and 2007, especially, I watched football derby game between Bosnia and Hercegovina and Serbia and Montenegro in 2004. I'm studying Serbo-Croatian, language spoken in the former Yugoslav nations. I worked with Bosnian national team of athletics as volunteer interpreter in the World championship of athletics held in Osaka in 2007.

I'm very happy to get a QSL from my special country.

KL7RA from Alaska, TNX FR UR QSL!

During my trip around Uzbekistan QSL cards from KL7RA, an amateur radio station in Alaska, USA arrived by airmail.

KL7RA station is operated by NORTH POLE CONTEST GROUP. I had a QSO with this station on 25 Octber 2009 on the band of 15m by the mode of SSB in the CQ WW DX Contest. I remember I had a difficulty to have a QSO with this station though a signal from Alaska arrived very strongly.

Alaska is one independent entity because this state is far from other states of the mainland of USA. I got new confirmed entity.

A design of QSL card is a photo of a river in jungle. I understand a beauty of Papua New Guinea abundant in beautiful natures.

In addition to RT6A's card, RA6AU station sent me two sheets of individual card. One is a photo of DX pedition in the White Sea, another a photo of big loop antenna.
I want such a large yard where I can set such a big antenna!

EuropPapua New Guinea became the first confirmed entity for me. I'm very happy to have an opportunity to have a QSO with very rare entity by a participation in .

A design of QSL card is a photo of participation member in 2007 Russian DX Contest. The left RA6AU station is QSL manager of this club station.

In addition to RT6A's card, RA6AU station sent me two sheets of individual card. One is a photo of DX pedition in the White Sea, another a photo of big loop antenna.
I want such a large yard where I can set such a big antenna!

I had a QSO with this station on 1 August 2009 on the band of 15m by the mode of SSB before our domestic contest.

He has 4 elements yagi antenna and 400w output transmitter. On the opposite I have dipole antenna and only 50w output. His signal was very beautiful and even if DX condition was so bad, I could have a QSO with YC1FWO station.

During my trip around Uzbekistan QSL card was delivered by airmail from BG7AOD station in China.

I had a QSO with this station on 15 November 2009 on the band of 15m by the mode of SSB in the JIDX Contest.

I visited Uzbekistan and Russia.

I visited Uzbekistan and Russia from 26 Nov. till 6 Dec.

Though the weather in Uzbekistan was almost rainy or cloudy during trip, I enjoyed traveling around cities filled with precious world heritages. Especially Samarkand was very beautiful. I walked around blue mosque city which Amir Temur constructed.

But I met sometimes a little chaos world... For example lawless traffic, big potlesses on the road cheating bus driver... I met a deep Asian world.

When it comes to amateur radio, I couldn't see houses on whose loof antenna is set in Uzbekistan(UJ). But I heard that there are active stations and I look forward to their QRV in the contest.

On the way to home, I visited Moscow by transit and walked around electric town. I found several amateur radio shop but still a little.

It was very short trip, but I had very interesting experiences on this trip!

RK0SL, TNX FR UR QSL!

Before departure for Uzbekistan QSL cards of RK0L station arrived.

RK0L station is operated by Promorsky Radio Club in Vladivostok, Russia, and I had a QSO with this station on 17 Oct. 2009 on the band of 40m by the mode of RTTY in the JARTS RTTY DX Contest.

A design of RK0L's card is celebrating the 150th anniversary of A.S. Popov's birth, a Russian radio ingeniur, the 100th anniversary of communication service of Russian navy and the 90th anniversary of Russian signal troops.
Especially the slogan "RROM MORZE TO INTERNET" is very impressive.

In addition to RK0L's card, QSL manager UA0LW station sent me his individual QSL card. A design is his past ans present shack. He opened his station in 1987 with handmade tranceiver. Now bland-new tranceiver and PC are set in his shack.

According to his letter in Russian he is enjoying 2m SSB and he has experience to have a QSO with station in Okinawa. The distance between Japan and Vladivistok is about 1500km. Maybe we have a chance to have a QSO.

I'm very happy to get such beautiful cards and warm letter.

Mongolian DX Contest & LZ DX Contest Report

I participated Mongolian DX Contest and LZ(Bulgalia) DX Contest last weekend.

I operated in Mukoujima Island, Onomichi City, Hiroshima, JAPAN, as JO3PSJ/4.

As for Mongolian Contest, because maybe it is the first time for it, QRV stations were a few. Even though Far Eastern stations participating contest almost didn't show up. Result ended up to only 7 JT Mongolian stations and one Russian Far Eastern station.
But I was so happy that I had an opportunity to have a QSO with JT stations.

My goal to operate in Mukoujima Island is not only to participate DX contests, but also to try new handmade vertical antenna for 40m band.

I have used dipole antenna for 40m band but it was not suitable for DXing. I wanted to solve problems, so I made vertical antenna.

For European stations, signal strength got improved, compared with dipole, but when it comes to transmission, it is still hard to have QSOs.

I tried to participate LZ Contest and call CQ stations from European nations. But many of them asked me "QRZ?""Again?" repeatedly.
But I exchanged successfully contest number with S5(Slovenia), DL(Germany), OE(Austria), LZ(Bulgalia).
I will try it again after improvement.

In addition, I set up Inverted V dipole antenna for 17m band because condition in 17m was so good and a pedition station 5W0KH showed up from Samoa. I succeeded in QSO with this pedition station consisted by Korean team.
On this day condition in 17m band was beautiful and I realized to make a QSO with 9A(Croatia) and HB(Switzerland).

The results of both contests were so poor, but I enjoyed DXing very well.

9M6BRC. TNX FR UR QSL!

Last Friday QSL card by 9M6BRC, a East Malaysian BORNEO AMATEUR RADIO CLUB, arrived by air mail.

I had a QSO with this station on the band of 15m on 7 June in usual non-contest QSO and on 10m band on 12 July in IARU HF Championship.
I operated at home in both days. Used antennas are handmade ground plain with fishing rod for 15m band and inverted V dipole for 10m band. I set them in my balcony on the 3rd floor.
This station was my first East Malaysian station and I remember being excited so much after I succeeded in QSO.

Thanks a lot for FB QSL card! I'm looking forward to seeing you again on the air!

I had a QSO with this station on the band of 15m on 24 October in CQ WW DX Contest Phone.
Though I operated at observatory at the sea level of 645 meters with output of 50 watts, I could enjoy QSOs with New Zealand stations as if I talked with local stations.
In addition, a small emblem of kiwi, maybe national bird of New Zealand, is very interesting.

Thanks a lot for FB QSL card from kiwi islands!
I'm looking forward to seeing you again on the air!

VR2009EAG, TNX FR UR QSL!

Today 2 QSL cards issued by VR2009EAG in Hong Kong were delivered to me.

VR2009EAG is a special station for Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games, which are a regional olympic games held in East Asian Region once four years. This station operates till this december.

I had 2 QSOs with VR2009EAG, one on 5 September on 15m band in All Asian Contest Phone, another on 24 October 0n 10m band in CQ WW DX Contest Phone. In addition I already got 1 QSL card for a QSO in this May.
Now I think VR2009EAG has several kinds of cards in design. I guess at least two kinds of design, maybe yellow card(football) for 10m band, blue one(archery) for 15m band by my experience??

VR2009EAG's QSL manager is VR2XMT station. Station operation will finish next month. Unless you have QSO with this special station yet, I wish you can do as early as possible. VR2009EAG will show up in DX contest.

Thanks a lot and Duo Xie for FB beautiful QSL cards!

JIDX Contest Participation

Today I participated in JIDX Contest Phone at an observatory of 645 meters above sea level as mobile station JO3PSJ/3.

I enjoyed contest on 15m band with Radix RDE-15 rotary dipole antenna.

I had 70 QSOs from 20 countries because condition of 15m band was very good. Of them the first countries for me are Italy, Mongolia and Palau, SSB first is Ukraine.
Especially, I couldn't have a QSO with Italy station in CQ WW DX Contest held in October.
In addition, I had 6 QSOs with stations in Argentina. Nation on the other side of the globe became not special for me.

I checked two things in this contest for the preparation for next week's Mongolian DX Contest. One is to check how many Mongolian stations participates in contest, another is to check conDX of high band.

On 15m band only one Mongolian station, JV1A, had QRV. Next week I guess more Mongolian station will be on air.

Let's meet in JIDX Contest

From 0700UTC 14 November till 1300UTC 15 November JIDX DX Contest takes place and I'll join in this contest.
Maybe I will participate contest in daytime on our local time on the band of 10m and 15m.

I go to the nearest mountain to operate as JO3PSJ/3, with portable three after my call sign. I have a plan to set Radix RDE-15 rotary dipole for 15m band and 2 elements yagi for 10m band. Except for ham operation, I'll listen to Radio St. Helena, which is broadcasted once a year and will be on air in the early morning on 15 November this year.

But I'm worried about heavy rain. Tommorow it will rain heavily whole a Saturday around our country. It is said that on Sunday the rate of raining will be law. It depends on weather whether I can join in contest.

I'm looking forward to having a FB QSO with you!
Please call JO3PSJ/3!!

520 QSLs delivered from JARL bureau

On the Last week of September QSL cards were delivered from our JARL bureau.

I got 520 QSL cards this time, all of which were issued by domestic stations, by no overseas stations.
The reason why there was no QSL from overseas station was because I had a few QSOs with overseas station in winter 2008-09.

Almost cards were issued on the basis of QSOs for domestic contests held between this May and July. The nearest QSO day dates back to 26 July,2009.
And I got several QSL cards from special stations. They will be precious for me.

In addition, I reached JCC-500, our award, on all bands. I will apply for this award.

I'm very happy to get many beautiful and precious cards from the same hobby friends.

We had a QSO on the 40m band by RTTY at 1240UTC on August 29, 2009 on the SCC RTTY Contest.

CQ WW DX CONTEST PHONE

I participated in CQ WW DX CONTEST PHONE, the biggest DX contest, on the last weekend.

I operated in the observatory at the sea level of 645m high as JO3PSJ/3 from start of contest till 0544UTC on Sunday and I had 170 QSO on the whole operation time.

Though I had many QSO mainly with stations from Asia-Pacific regions such as BY,VR2,VK,KH0,KH2,KH6,DU,K,UA0, I could have QSO with distant stations from Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Bosnia-Hercegovina.

My facilities for this contests is YAESU FT-450M. Antennas consisted of 20m wire for 80m, inverted V dipole for 40m, Radix RDE-15 rotary dipole for 15m and 2 elements yagi for 10m.

I was very satisfied with performance of RDE-15, but inverted V dipole for 40m didn't work well. I'd like to set antenna on the high spot as possible.
Improvement of performance on 40m band is my important subject.

Next time JIDX Phone contest will be held on the 2nd weekend of November.
See you again in the next contest!
